A Chance to Make History at Aintree

Mar 27, 2025

Ahead of the prestigious Aintree Festival, we are delighted to share some exciting news. Old Cokethorpean Olive Nicholls (OC 2022, Harcourt) and current parent Mrs Nicholls will be chasing Aintree racing history.

On Grand National day next Saturday, 5 April, Olive will be riding Thank You Ma’am, who has been in fine form this season, with two wins, three seconds and one third-placed finish. You can watch Olive introducing Thank You Ma’am in the video above.

Deepening the Cokethorpe connection, Thank You Ma’am is trained by current parent Mrs Nicholls and owned as part of the Posh Pundit Racing Club by another parent, Mr Adams. Olive and Mrs Nicholls are acknowledged as the most successful mother and daughter trainer-jockey combination in jump racing history. Should Thank You Ma’am win on Grand National day, they will become the first mother and daughter combination to enter the Winners’ Enclosure in almost 200 years!

The Racing Club are offering shares (total annual cost £80) in Thank You Ma’am, with 50% of the fee being donated to either the Bob Champion Cancer Trust or Brain Tumour Research. In return, shareholders will receive a picture, certification of their ownership, a visit to his stables to watch him work on the gallops, and entry to the ballot for access to the Owners’ Enclosure on Grand National day next Saturday. Sign up to be a part of this incredible journey at https://www.theposhpundit.co.uk/choose-membership.

Wishing the best of luck to Olive and Mrs Nicholls, and we hope you will be parading a winner at Cokethorpe in the not-too-distant future.
