A Masterclass in Culture at Scholars’ Formal

Jan 20, 2024

The annual Sixth Form Scholars’ Formal was a glorious occasion, celebrating their achievements and contributions. The evening began with a welcome drink in the Dining Hall; as students, parents, and the staff invited by the Upper Sixth arrived, dressed for the occasion in formal attire that reflected their cultural heritage.

This year, the theme was a celebration of the variety of cultural identities at Cokethorpe, a theme reflected in the diverse five-course menu. This consisted of an amuse bouche of Dutch and Belgian Bitterballen, followed by a starter of fragrant Thai Summer Rolls. A fine Scandinavian-inspired fish course followed and, for the main, guests were presented with a Northern-India-styled banquet. The German Black Forest Gâteau was followed with a selection of cheeses from around Europe. Before each course, Upper Sixth students Rohana (Queen Anne) and Marit (Feilden), who had designed the menu in partnership with our excellent Catering Team, confidently introduced the background of their choices and pairings of food and wine.

Thanks go to all involved for a truly wonderful evening, in particular the incredible food from the Catering Department, the Maintenance Team, Events Officer Miss Beck, and the Heads of Scholars, Mr Elkin-Jones and Miss Hutchinson, without whose help and organisation, the event would not have been possible.
