An ongoing programme of investment
At Cokethorpe we balance the demands of preserving and maintaining our historic estate with our determination to continually and sustainably provide the best learning environment for our pupils as education continues to evolve.
Our ongoing programme of investment has seen provisions made for technological enhancements, upgrades to our classrooms, performance spaces, sporting and outdoor education facilities and more in recent years. Most recently, this saw the upgrading of our Science Department’s laboratories in the summer of 2025.
Science Department
Science at Cokethorpe has always inspired curiosity and achievement, from Reception through to A Level and beyond. With consistently strong results, our commitment to scientific learning is unwavering.
In the summer of 2025, our Science Department underwent a full reconfiguration and upgrade, expertly delivered by Oxon Conversions. The refreshed laboratories were designed with our Learning and Teaching ethos at the forefront, creating dynamic spaces where learning truly comes to life.
The Science Department was the latest entry in an ongoing programme of upgrades and investments. In recent years, improvements have been made to facilities across performance spaces, outdoor education provision, sports and classrooms.
Theatre Mezzanine
2025
The Shed’s lighting and sound technical area was upgraded in 2025 to improve the working space and offer more learning opportunities for pupils in these theatre disciplines.
Climbing Tower
2024
Part of the Greaves Outdoor Education Centre development, the School’s original climbing tower was relocated and upgraded to include more climbing routes improving the experience for beginners and more advanced climbers.
Boathouse
2023
Part of the Greaves Outdoor Education Centre development, the School’s boathouse on the River Thames was replaced with significant improvements and the addition of an Outdoor Education classroom, enhancing access to our well-regarded watersports programme and other pursuits.
Changing Pavilion
2022
Completed in 2022, the Changing Pavilion was purpose-built to provide modern facilities capable of housing all pupils during their games allocations and on match days, as well as an ideally located venue for opposition teams and sports lets with the School’s commercial programme, Cokethorpe Enterprises.
Pre-Prep Classrooms
2022
The Pre-Prep classrooms saw the youngest members of our community re-locate to a dedicated space, helping Reception and Year 1 adjust to school life before joining the rest of the Prep School in the Mansion House. Developed with the Early Years Foundation Stage in mind, the bright, open classrooms open onto an outdoor learning area and beyond to the parkland grounds.
The Prep School
The Pre-Prep classrooms for Reception and Year 1 provide a dedicated space both indoors and out for our youngest pupils to explore and grow, opening directly out on to the parkland.
The Prep classrooms are fully equipped, with dedicated spaces for Art, Music and Drama, plus a delightful Prep Reading Room, whilst the pupils also make use of the Senior School’s facilities. Based within the showstopping Queen Anne Mansion House, the Prep School has an air of fairy tale about it, with grand and inspirational spaces in which to learn and to grow.
A Microsoft Showcase School
As a Microsoft Showcase School, the technological setup in each classroom is on the leading edge, with wirelessly connectable smart screens, and Microsoft Surface devices used by all teaching staff across the School, and by pupils in the Senior School, aiding the opportunities for collaboration and support. The Senior School
The Senior School is based in purpose-built classroom blocks constructed to form quads, reminiscent of the Oxford and Cambridge colleges, evoking a sense of tradition and rigour. These are complemented by a more recently built library, with its own quad completed by the Dining Hall and Sixth Form Centre.
“There’s virtually no stone unturned for facilities here.”
Muddy Stilettos
Our Parkland
It is the facilities beyond the classrooms which particularly provide a unique experience for our pupils. Within the grounds there are shooting ranges, a climbing tower, a six-hole golf course, wooded areas for outdoor education and a kitchen garden, alongside the more commonly found sports hall and fitness centre, and theatre.
The School’s parkland stretches to over 150 acres and accommodates two full size astro pitches, providing a year-round playing surface for hockey, netball and tennis. The extensive grounds also provide space for seasonal sports including six rugby and football pitches and three cricket pitches, with the golf course weaving its way around the grounds and the pitches.
