On Tuesday, Year 2 swapped the classroom for coal and carriages with an unforgettable trip to the Steam Museum – The Museum of the Great Western Railway!
The day began with a Discovery Session where pupils dressed up as factory workers, learned all about the visionary Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and discovered what life was like for GWR workers and their families in the Railway Village.
They explored vintage toys, played historical games, and got hands-on with interactive exhibits—from changing signals in a signal box to walking beneath the mighty Caerphilly Castle steam locomotive!
Highlights included:
– Building bridges
– Learning how the Box Tunnel was built
– Spotting old-fashioned transport
– Trying their luck on seaside arcade games
It was a day packed with curiosity, creativity, and a healthy dose of steam-powered excitement!
