Ascending New Heights in Enlightenment Lecture

Nov 21, 2024

Sixth Form students were joined by our Third Form Scholars for the latest Enlightenment Lecture, delivered by expert climber and explorer, Stuart McAleese.

Pupils were transported away from the lightly snow-dusted grounds of Cokethorpe School, to the heavily snow-laden heights of Scotland, The Alps, Patagonia, and even New York. Jaws dropped as McAleese regaled the audience with death-defying tales, and incredible feats of bravery, tales accompanied by incredible images taken from the conquered summits. It was clear from the intelligent questioning by all those in attendance that the speaker successfully engaged with his audience, and perhaps inspired some of them to take a step out of their own comfort zones.

Stuart commented, “Thank you very much for the opportunity to be the speaker in your third Enlightenment Lecture… The students were amazing and presented some superb questions. And it snowed as well, just like in the mountains!”
