What an extraordinary evening for Cokethorpe School at the Kitebrook Humanities Public Speaking Competition! In our very first year attending, Cokethorpe rose to the challenge, facing stiff competition from Kitebrook, St Hugh’s, The Croft and Cothill. The standard across all schools was exceptionally high, with each participant delivering thoughtful and polished performances.
Cokethorpe was proudly represented by three outstanding speakers. Cat (Year 6) captivated the audience with The Magic of Fungi, Alex (First Form) explored The Real Cause of the Black Death with clarity and confidence, and Esmae (Second Form) delivered a compelling and powerful talk on The Spanish Flu.

After careful deliberation, the judges awarded Cokethorpe the Shield, marking a remarkable achievement in our first appearance at the event. To add to the excitement, Esmae also received an individual prize for her excellent use of projection, highlighting her exceptional delivery and stage presence.
We are immensely proud of Cat, Alex and Esmae for their courage, preparation and eloquence. Their achievements reflect the School’s commitment to fostering curiosity, confidence and communication skills in our pupils. This fantastic result is a memorable moment for Cokethorpe and sets a high bar for future competitions.
