On Thursday last week, the Music Department took a group of First and Second Form pupils to a fantastic concert given by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. An eclectic programme, including something for everyone, combined with the world-class acoustics, provided us with a captivating evening of musical memories.
Pupil favourites included Vaughan-Williams’ The Lark Ascending and Tchaikovsky’s thrilling suite of pieces from Swan Lake, and they were particularly taken with the variety of melodies and orchestral effects on show. A highlight for the staff was hearing Bizet’s Carmen Suite No.1, an arrangement of which was performed by the School Orchestra last term.
