On Thursday, 19 June, Cokethorpe Prep School was alive with excitement as pupils, staff, and families gathered for the much-anticipated annual Sports Day. With the sun shining and spirits high, pupils from Baker, Gwyn, Lockwood, and Symonds Houses competed for the coveted title of 2025 Sports Day Champions.
The day began with the Pre-Prep races, where our youngest athletes set the tone with energy, enthusiasm, and outstanding sportsmanship. Pupils, including Oliver, Louis, Oscar, Arleo, Seren, Ruby, and Naomi, impressed all with their determination and joyful participation.
The momentum continued into the afternoon with the Year 3 to 6 events, where pupils tackled a range of track and field disciplines. From the lightning-quick 60-metre dash to the stamina-testing 800 metres, each race showcased the children’s effort, resilience, and athletic ability. Year 6 pupils introduced the long jump to the schedule, delivering confident performances and soaring leaps into the sandpit.
The highlight of the day came in the form of the house relay – a thrilling final event that had the entire field on their feet. In a spectacular show of speed and teamwork, Gwyn House surged ahead to claim victory and the honour of being crowned 2025 Prep Sports Day Champions.
Throughout the day, every pupil embodied the Cokethorpe spirit and the motto of the “Go for it Gorilla,” embracing each challenge with positivity, encouragement, and camaraderie.
