On Monday, 3 November 2025, all Fifth Form and Upper Sixth Form Scholars embarked on an educational visit to Westmill Energy in Watchfield – an inspiring site that combines both solar and wind power to create one of the UK’s leading community-owned renewable energy projects.
Westmill Energy brings together three organisations under one umbrella: Westmill Solar Co-operative, Westmill Wind Farm Co-operative, and the Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust (WeSET). Since 2008, the site has generated more than 15GWh of clean, renewable energy annually, while also supporting local initiatives and providing educational outreach on the benefits of sustainable energy.
During their personalised tour, Scholars learned about the technology behind the turbines and solar panels, the importance of renewable energy in addressing global challenges, and how community energy projects can contribute to social and environmental change.

The visit offered valuable insights not only for those studying STEM subjects but also for Scholars interested in Social Sciences, Geography, and Politics, highlighting the interconnectedness of technology, society, and the environment.
