On Wednesday 23 April, the Second Form took a bold first step into the world of careers—and not through lectures or leaflets, but with a lively, hands-on workshop designed to ignite curiosity, creativity, and collaboration.
Far from the ordinary, the workshop challenged pupils to explore the transferable skills that are essential in any future career: teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and creative thinking. In teams of five, pupils tackled a series of engaging and often unexpected challenges, all designed to showcase how valuable these skills are in action.
Their tasks included:
-
Folding a flawless Origami Bunny
-
Constructing the tallest possible Marshmallow-Spaghetti Tower
-
Brainstorming as many imaginative uses for a house brick as possible
-
Cracking a selection of matchstick puzzles
Each challenge tested different skills, and each team brought their own flair and ingenuity. From a record-breaking 82cm spaghetti tower to brilliantly inventive brick repurposing, pupils demonstrated that there is no one way to succeed. Whether mastering the delicate folds of origami or finding creative ways around a sticky marshmallow problem, every participant contributed to their team’s success.
The workshop not only helped pupils identify key strengths within themselves and their peers, but also encouraged them to appreciate how these attributes are vital in every kind of workplace. It was a fun, inclusive, and thought-provoking introduction to the world of work—and a reminder that career thinking starts with confidence, collaboration, and a willingness to think outside the box.
