On Wednesday 30 April, pupils from every year group came together for the very first MADD Evening – a celebration of Music, Art, Dance, and Drama, an event which is entirely student-led. With minimal teacher involvement (though special thanks go to Mr Wilson and Mr Watson for their support), the event showcased the incredible talent and initiative of its young organisers and performers. The evening ran seamlessly, with the audience praising its slick production and high standard of performance. Dance took centre stage, earning particular acclaim as it made one of its first major appearances at Cokethorpe.
The audience was treated to an eclectic programme of acts: pop music, slow jazz from the Jazz Band and a highly entertaining group performance from Xander (Fourth Form, Vanbrugh), Oscar (Upper Sixth, Vanbrugh) and Finlay (Fourth Form, Gascoigne) entitled Devil Wears Zara. The event also showcased the newest additions to drama – sonologues, where performers would act out the words to songs such as Love Story or Popular (the Donald Trump version).
All in all, the inaugural MADD Evening was a resounding success, one that promises to become a regular feature of the Cokethorpe calendar for years to come.
