Year 1 Map Out an Adventure at The Leys

Feb 11, 2025

Year 1 have been exploring the world of maps, discovering their symbols, purpose, and how they help us navigate.

As part of this exciting learning journey, they took their exploration one step further by venturing to The Leys in Witney to create their own simple maps of the area. The children learned how to read and navigate a map, recording the land use and landmarks of the area and marking buildings and key features with accurate symbols.

To make the experience even more special, they brought Einstein the Penguin, the character from their class book, along for the adventure. As they explored the area, the children worked together to read the map and even took turns using a digital camera to capture pictures of each other in front of the landmarks. It was a fun, interactive way to learn in the outdoors while developing their map-making skills, full of landmark moments!
