Mar 6, 2025

Year 6 embarked on an unforgettable trip to Hampton Court Palace, delving into the fascinating world of the Tudors. From re-enactments to workshops and exploring the palace grounds, the day was packed with exciting activities that brought the history Year 6 have been studying in the classroom to life.

The visit began with a re-enactment of a royal court, where pupils stepped back in time as they witnessed Queen Elizabeth I and her courtiers in action, discussing matters of state and courtly etiquette, giving a real sense of the grandeur and traditions of Tudor England.

One of the highlights of the day was a workshop led by Lady Alice, learning about the daily lives of Tudor servants. They discovered the many jobs they had to do—including the rather disgusting task of cleaning out the Great House of Easement (the palace toilets). Yuck! During the workshop, pupils played Tudor games, learned traditional Tudor songs, and explored Henry VIII’s private quarters. The trip was rounded off with a visit to the famous hedge maze where pupils had great fun navigating the winding paths.

The visit to Hampton Court Palace was an incredible experience, giving a real insight into Tudor life, history, and traditions.
