Admissions Process

Joining Cokethorpe, at any age, begins with a visit to our School. Thereafter, registering your child is the next step in the process.

Step One: visit us

Parents and pupils are encouraged to join us for our next Open Morning, an access-all-areas look at our School, and opportunity to meet our staff and pupils.

Alternatively, our monthly Meet the Head events for small groups of families are a great way to hear from the Head and staff over refreshments on a typical working day. Tours are available at these events. Booking is through the Admissions Office

Step Two: register

Complete and return the Registration Form and non-refundable Registration Fee (£120 per child). The Admissions Office will be in touch to discuss next steps with you.

Entry to other year groups
We conduct half termly Prep School Taster Days and Senior Entrance Assessments for entry into other year groups, where places become available.

Pre-Prep and Prep Entry

Step Three: entrance assessments

Reception (4+)
There are no formal entrance assessments in the Reception Class. Registered, prospective pupils are invited to a ‘Welcome to Reception’ event in the Summer Term in the year preceding year of entry.

Other year groups (Years 1 to 6)
Where places become available, registered, prospective pupils are invited to join us for one of our half termly Prep School Taster Days which include assessments in Maths and English.

Step Four: offers

Reception (4+)
Following a successful ‘Welcome to Reception’ visit, offers for these limited places are extended on a first-come first-served basis.

Offers to other year groups
Offers for entry into the Prep School are made following a successful Prep School Taster Day, entrance assessments, and a school reference.

First Form Entry

Step Three: Parent Information Evenings

Parents of registered, prospective First Form pupils are invited to join us to hear from the Head, Registrar, and Director of Studies about life at Cokethorpe School.

Parents will also hear from the Head of Lower House and current pupils about new pupil onboarding and integration.

Step Four: Assessment Days

First Form entrance assessments
The assessment and interview day includes:

  • Online assessments in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • A one-to-one interview
  • Group interview
  • Practical assessment

Step Five: offers

Senior School offers are made within two weeks of sitting the entrance assessments.

Offers for a place in the Senior School are based on:

  • Academic outcomes of the assessments
  • Performance in interviews and practical assessments
  • References from the pupil’s current school

Third Form Entry

Parents will also hear from Housemasters and current pupils about new pupil onboarding and integration.

Step Four: Assessment Days

Third Form entrance assessments
The assessment and interview day includes:

  • Online assessments in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning
  • A one-to-one interview
  • Group interview
  • Practical assessment

Registered, prospective Third Form pupils can sit these assessments up to two years prior to the intended September start date.

Step Five: offers

Senior School offers are made within two weeks of sitting the entrance assessments.

Offers for a place in the Senior School are based on:

  • Academic outcomes of the assessments
  • Performance in interviews and practical assessments
  • References from the pupil’s current school

Common Entrance is welcomed, although not essential.

Fourth Form Entry

Where places become available, registered, prospective pupils are invited to join us for one of our half termly Senior School entrance assessment appointments. Candidates are assessed in Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning.

Step Four: offers

Senior School offers are made within two weeks of sitting the entrance assessments.

Offers for a place in the Senior School are based on:

  • Academic outcomes of the assessments
  • References from the pupil’s current school

Sixth Form Entry

Step Three: Preview Evening and Experience Days

Our Sixth Form Preview Evening takes place in June every year. It is an opportunity to meet Heads of Departments and view the Sixth Form Centre as well as hearing from the Head of Sixth Form and Director of Studies.

Following the Preview Evening, invitations are dispatched for prospective students to join us for a Sixth Form Experience Day. These take place on Friday 28 November 2025 and Friday 6 March 2026.

Step Four: offers and entry requirements

Offers for places in our Sixth Form are conditional upon achieving the required grades ar GCSE, and a satisfactory school reference. Conditional offers are dispatched following a successful Sixth Form Experience Day.

Sixth Form access routes:

  • Three A Level subjects and the EPQ
  • Four A Levels
  • The Business BTEC programme
