Year 5 and 6 got back in the saddle as they undertook their ‘bikeability’ training course held here at Cokethorpe. Bikeability is the national standard for cycling in the UK, and the programme was delivered by qualified instructors from the fabulous Windrush Bike Project. Putting safety first, the programme aims to teach our young cyclists the skills, knowledge and understanding to cycle safely on the roads, including learning how to check and maintain their bikes.
Windrush Bike Project are a local social enterprise who run a community bike workshop in Witney, as well as delivering Bikeability cycle training to 32 schools across West Oxfordshire, and campaigning for safer cycle routes.
Our pupils demonstrated their independent thinking skills as well as developing their decision-making, planning and organisation. Not only was this course informative and instructive, but it was evident by the end of the course that the pupils had certainly enjoyed the ride!
