Lower Sixth Electives

Sep 20, 2025

On the morning of Friday 19 September, Lower Sixth students attended the Electives Fair, where staff introduced the wide range of Electives on offer for the year ahead. Each presenter outlined what their Elective would involve and why pupils might choose to take part, sparking plenty of interest and discussion.

The Electives Programme gives students the chance to explore subjects beyond their A Level choices, encouraging intellectual curiosity and broadening horizons. Each student will take part in three Electives across the year, engaging with topics purely for the joy of learning – there are no exams or homework, just the opportunity to think differently and try something new.

This year’s options are as diverse as ever, ranging from ceramic vase design inspired by Grayson Perry to economics, conflict studies, and production planning. Whether creative or analytical, each Elective offers students the opportunity to discover new passions.

Upper Sixth student, Thea (Vanbrugh) spoke about her experience of the Electives last year: ‘The Dystopian Elective gave me many opportunities to discover how a society can be controlled, from the gripping documentary on Alexei Navalny and his fight against corruption in Russia, to deep discussions on poetry that challenged our perspectives and emotions, sparking debates about technology, humankind, and the fears of the future. What makes the Electives programme truly unique is the way it blends creativity, current affairs, and critical thinking.’
