Lower Sixth students visited the University of Birmingham as part of their preparation for Higher Education. The day included an introductory talk on Higher Education, a guided tour of the university campus, and the opportunity for students to speak with current undergraduates about student life. The experience provided valuable insight into university life and helped students begin thinking about their future plans in Higher Education. This visit formed an important part of our wider programme to support students as they begin to consider their options after Sixth Form. Further work will continue in school throughout the Lent and Summer Terms, during which students will work closely with tutors and staff to research courses and begin preparing for the university application process.
A group of Lower Sixth students also attended the Create Your Future exhibition, organised by UCAS. This event offered a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of creative courses, traineeships, and career pathways in Art and Design, Music, and the Performing Arts – all brought together under one roof. Lara (Lower Sixth, Gascoigne) commented ‘When we arrived, we entered a big bustling room filled with many different stalls. It was great opening the map and seeing the variety of different options available to us. I particularly enjoyed speaking to people from Plymouth, Leeds and Bournemouth universities about their courses in animation, but the event also opened my eyes to other courses available which I hadn’t previously considered.’
