Marching into the Lent Term with Epiphany Celebration

Jan 8, 2025

The Lent Term began with a firm favourite in the Prep School calendar, the annual gathering in the Dining Hall to celebrate ‘La Fête des Rois’, a French celebration of Epiphany.

It was an event that brings French culture to life at Cokethorpe, as the pupils take part in the tradition associated with the delicious puff pastry ‘galettes’ to discover a special charm inside. The tradition is that bakers hide a small ceramic figure in each galette and whoever finds the ‘fève’ will be king or queen for the day and wear a crown with pride. The youngest person at each table calls out who is going to have which piece of cake, leaving no room for cheating!
