Fourth Form GCSE Textiles pupils travelled to Oxford for a day of creative research, visiting the Oxford University Museum of Natural History and the Oxford Botanic Garden.
With this year’s coursework theme focused on ‘Nature’, inspiration was abundant.
The Botanic Garden’s tropical greenhouses offered warmth and colour on a drizzly January morning, filled with dramatic foliage, unusual textures and vibrant blooms. Sketchbooks and cameras were soon busy capturing ideas.

At the Museum of Natural History, pupils moved between collections of butterflies, birds, shells, skeletons and minerals, filling mini sketchbooks with rapid drawings and photographs.

Kassia (Fourth Form, Vanbrugh) said:
‘I really enjoyed the trip because I saw lots of artefacts and plants, like butterflies, flowers and leaves, which have helped me with some samples for silk painting.’
We look forward to seeing how these natural influences blossom into creative outcomes back in the classroom.
