Cokethorpe School hosted Sam Peters, renowned journalist, campaigner, and author of Concussed: Sport’s Uncomfortable Truth, for a day dedicated to sports safety, concussion awareness, and the future of contact sports.
The day began with Sam sharing his journey into journalism and his role as a leading advocate for player welfare with our Sixth Form students. The students gained valuable insights into the responsibility of sports reporting, the power of storytelling, and why concussion in sports is a critical issue.
In the afternoon, Sam led a thought-provoking discussion with coaches and invited guests. Topics included the latest research on concussion protocols, cultural attitudes in contact games, and practical steps to ensure player safety at all levels.
The day concluded with an engaging evening event where Sam explored the personal stories and decade-long investigation behind Concussed. Audience members left with a deeper understanding of the challenges and changes shaping the future of rugby, football, and other contact sports.

With growing concern about head injuries in sport, events like these highlight the importance of education, advocacy, and proactive measures with coaches at all levels to protect athletes.
Sam was joined in the talks by Cokethorpe teacher and Head of Le Plaisir Du Mouvement (LPM) UK, Mr Tom Phillips, and Nick Greenhalgh, CEO and Co-Founder of Luca Health.
Earlier in the day, Sam gave an interview about the campaign and his work, which you can watch below.
Thank you to Sam Peters for an outstanding day of learning and conversation — and to everyone who joined us.
