What a day it was for Year 3, as they journeyed back in time to the Roman era during their visit to Chedworth Roman Villa, one of Britain’s most impressive ancient sites, nestled in a beautiful Cotswold valley.
From the moment they arrived, the children’s excitement was unmistakable. Their guided tour was led by a Roman character in full costume, who brought the villa’s history to life with captivating stories and fascinating facts. Curiosity filled the air as questions poured in — from the practical (“What do you use a sponge on a stick for?”) to the thought-provoking (“What’s a Nymphaeum?”) — each sparking laughter and lively discussion in equal measure.

In the Learning Pavilion, the children delved further into Roman life through a range of hands-on activities. They handled both real and replica artefacts, tried on traditional Roman clothing, and designed their own colourful mosaics using magnetic cubes — a perfect mix of creativity and historical discovery.

The day offered a vivid insight into life in Roman Britain, from luxurious bathhouses to clever plumbing systems, leaving the children amazed at the sophistication of Roman design and daily life.
They returned to school full of enthusiasm, eager to share their stories and newfound knowledge. Chedworth Villa proved to be the perfect setting for history to come alive, and Year 3 loved every moment of their Roman adventure.
