This year, the Prep School teamed up with the Senior Art Department to celebrate the artwork from both Schools in one evening. Parents from the Prep School were able to visit their children’s work in the Senior Lower Library and then pop over to the coffee shop where they could enjoy drinks and canapes whilst looking at all this year’s GCSE and A-Level Art and Textile work.
The entrance to the Lower Library was transformed into a visual feast with a vast variety of work from all pupils in the Prep School. Paintings were suspended from the ceiling, ceramic caterpillars crawled up a large tree and plaster figures cleverly occupied a wire display case in the entrance hall. There was plenty more to see inside the Library, including Tudor portraits, some adorable Gruffalo models and a selection of the Young Art Oxford Art Competition entries.
Our A-Level and GCSE pupils have this year been inspired by the theme ‘Reaction and Change’, as well as their trip to Venice and the examination titles ‘Simple and Complex’, ‘Isolation’, ‘Journeys’, ‘Surface Texture’ and ‘The News’. Their exciting work was well-received, and it was wonderful for the pupils to hear first-hand reactions from our guests. Our Art Award Holders responded to an open brief to produce an artwork of their choosing. Throughout this last year, they have been working on their chosen themes and there were sophisticated outcomes exploring portraiture, water and pattern.
